A network for PhD students
The network is open to all PhD students and early career researchers who are researching topics related to gender and sexuality and who work with, or are interested in, psychosocial methods and/or theory. If you are interested in joining, but are not currently a PhD student/ECR – for example, if you’re planning to apply for a PhD in a relevant research area, or you’re a clinician who publishes on topics related to gender and sexuality and uses critical approaches which align to psychosocial studies – feel free to get in touch anyway.
“Thinking the personal and social together”
Psychosocial studies is (sometimes deliberately) not well defined; it can be best thought of as ‘a “transdisciplinary” area of work in which activity is focused on phenomena in the social sciences and humanities where the “social” and the “personal” are both in evidence’ (Frosh & Vyrgioti, 2022) Psychosocial studies is also very much engaged with critical theory drawn from postcolonial studies, feminism, queer studies, and psychoanalysis, and often takes a critical approach to other disciplines such as psychology, sociology and psychoanalysis. This critical approach is very important to the network, and will manifest in different ways, including our approach to meeting structure, membership, and research ethics.
Location and institutions
This is a new network and we are keen to have members from different institutions. In person meetings are generally in central London, but the regular network meetings are on Zoom, so are accessible from anywhere.
Please get in touch here if you would like to join us!
